Arlene served in many capacities while in Minneapolis. She was a cub scout den mother, and volunteered as a secretary at church. She taught fourth grade Sunday school for six years, worked as a visitor at Nicollet Health Care Center for ten years. Arlene was a member of the Ivy Circle and donated countless hours as a meals-on-wheels for ten years. She tutored for the WISE program at Barton Elementary School for five years and tutored children in English at Fulton Elementary school 
· for two years. Arlene was a volunteer at the Minneapolis Children's Mercy Hospital for two years. She organized the "Friendly Service Sewing Club" which made clothes for children and adults in need plus promoted its work for ten years.
