General

Ancestry.com family of Kate Alice Melvin born Aug.21, 1855 in Ohio. Her parents are Thomas K. Melvin and Elizabeth Jane Riggs. Ancestry.com family of Kate Alice Melvin. It lists her as born Aug.21, 1855. It has her parents as Thomas K. Melvin and Elizabeth 'Eliza' Jane (Riggs) [which matches the 1860 census and 1870 for this family]. Unknown what ever became of Jennie including if she married and when/where she died. Alice married Robert Crane Burns on Oct.28, 1886 in Greene county Ohio. The ceremony was performed by Methodist minister Albert N. Spahr [probably the same one who assisted with the 1890 funeral of Thomas Melvin, father of Alice, the Rev. Spahr died in May 1911], the license was attested by probate judge J. H. Cooper. Unfortunately, the license does not state the residence of the couple but Robert was born in Ontario (per Canadian censuses of 1891, 1901 and 1911) and this couple will eventually live in Ontario.
