George's middle name may have been Gilbert and he probably was the "Bert" referred to in the 1949 letter by Mary E. "May" Douglass (the oldest daughter of George's uncle William Harlan Douglass). This Bert worked for the Santa Barbara post office for many years. This Bert was the son of May's uncle John [John Orson Douglass]. Bert was married and had two daughters that both had children.
