I have been to, and through, several parts on Nevada over the years. This trip gave me two new sections of the state
including actually through Elko. For twemty years it had been just a dot of my map of places visited. In the 1990's I
flew from Kansas City to Reno. My plane made a brief stopover in Elko to pick up some passengers. And next month's
trip plans include spending a night in Elko.
Most of the eastern half of Nevada is basically desert with large non-descript brown mountains that are often covered
with a haze. The highways in the east are usually long straight two-lanes that seem to go on and on. I also got to
finally drive to Ely (the town is unimpressive, I spend a night there) plus along the highways leading to it from the
east and going out of it to the south (highway 6 was very nice except for the two towns of Lund and Hoke which slow
you down to 25 MPH). Now I have pretty much covered the state's sections.
Despite the temperatures around the country near 100 degrees, as I left Ely just before sunrise, the temperature was 48.
Thanks to the numerous loooonnnng construction points along I-80, I decided I should skip Nevada next month since I was
scheduled to drive most of Nevada's I-80 westbound.
