For a number of years I have wanted to visit this city. It is the largest city in western Massachusetts and is at the southern end of a number of small towns where my ancestors lived.

The town itself seems pretty cool. Three big attractions in town that I visited:

• Springfield Armory started by George Washington, it is now a national park site
• Basketball Hall of Fame named for James Niesmith, the guy who invented basketball and was the first coach of Kansas University
• Dr. Seuss Museum, a little bit of heaven for children, it also brings out the kid in the adults

Springfield is like Boston in that the traffic lights timing is designed to turn yellow then red just as you are approaching them after finally getting the green light at the previous light. Thus, it can take several minutes to go one mile. Plus, again like Boston, Springfield has an abundance of one-way streets. Sometimes a person must drive quite a ways to get from Point A to Point B.
