Purposes of this trip:
1. Get two campuses visited -- AirForce Academy and University of Denver
2. Visit the new headquarters of Toastmasters International -- they moved in 2017 to Englewood
3. Do my first ever trip that is flying to and from a city in the same day
COLORADO: Denver metro and Air Force Academy just north of Colorado Springs
MISSED VISITING:
--(none)
OBSERVATIONS: Some observations made while traveling in this area:
- Colorado mountains are possibly the most beautiful ones in the 48 states
- Colorado drivers tend to go under the speed limit on interstates -- unusual for the country
- Denver International Airport comes just behind Dulles International as the most difficult to get around in -- all airport terminals should be like Kansas City -- ONE LEVEL!!!
- The highway system of the Denver metro area is nice plus easy to get around in -- but watch out for their sneaky toll roads which have no toll booths/gates, just cameras that send you a bill in the mail
The Bests:
- Fun to see the new Toastmasters International Headquarters
-
The Worsts:
- Denver International Airport
- Air Force Academy was a quick visit for two reasons (1) they will not let you in before 9:00 am when the visitor center opens (I was there a bit after 8:00 am), and, (2) due to a football game there the day I was there, I was not able to get the photo of the stadium
The Totals:
- Miles Driven: 148
- Driving: 3 hours in 1 day
- States: 1 -- Colorado (I flew into and out of Denver on the same day, a first for me to do that in any city)
- Major Universities: 2 -- Air Force Academy and the University of Denver
- Pictures Taken: 16 (and deleted 2 of them)
- National Parks: 0 (although I was tempted to go to Rocky Mountain National Park despite having visited there on 1984-09-19)
