One of my more recent goals during traveling is to photograph the sign at all of the major
U.S. colleges and universities. That is around 200 of them. To get all of them in a 300-mile
radius of Kansas City, several weekend trips were taken. This is to record the results of
those weekend trips with the colleges in Nebraska.
The only two large colleges in Nebraska are within an hour drive of each other -- Omaha and
Lincoln. THe UNiversity of Bebraska has one of the worst signs yet -- it is very low to the
ground, long curved and under bushes (and thus shadows). That makes it hard to photograph.
Since it was nearby, I visited the Homestead National Monument of America. It was the 132nd
national park facility for me to visit. It was nothing what I expected. I recall from many
years ago reading about some place in southeast Nebraska that had acres and acres of old
farm equipment and other things people would have kept in their homes in the early days of
central USA. I thought that was this place. Instead, this was about homesteading in America.
I was surprised to learn that almost every state west of the Appalachain Mountains had some
type of homesteading.
