This place was a very unexpected visit. At most, the plan was to stop by for half an hour or so to see
the beach. However, on Day #3 of the trip, as it was pouring buckets of rain, I noticed two things on the
weather radar. One, it was to rain all that day and all the next day over the entire Delaware peninsula.
Two, I saw that the front was covering the northern half of the peninsula but the southern half had yet
to get rain since the front was 45 degrees SW to NE. so I cancelled all my Day #3 and #4 visits and headed
southeast as fast as I could go. That meant Chincoteague. I ended up being only four hours ahead of 48+
hours of rain. All of this was supposedly thanks to Tropical Storm Julia which was just off the coast. It
was pulling inland pressures etc. to cause all this moisture.
I ended up in a way-to-expensive hotel that was priced only because of its location and certainly not
because of its elegance or amenities. The town is so small that it only has a McDonalds (which
happened to be right across the street from the hotel) and no other large businesses (just Mom and Pop
type tourist traps) and no decent looking restaurants. So I drove 15 miles west to a grocery store and
got enough food for two days. So I sat in my hotel room and watched the rain keep pouring -- with an
occasional break in the rain (guess the clouds were reloading).
