Salt Lake City was basically "home base" for this trip. I flew into it and out of it.
Although I had been to Salt Lake City twice before (once only to change planes on the
way to Reno NV), it was the first time I spent more than an hour there. I basically
only drove on I-15 plus in and out of the airport area.
Some interesting things I learned about interstates in Salt Lake City and Utah:
- HOV lane lasted for 55 miles south of the airport and about 20 north of the airport
- 80 MPH started 75 miles south of airport. I-70 also was 80 MPH. And whereas most states set speed limit at 55 MPH through cities, Salt Lake City is 70 MPH.
- I-15 seemed to be a straight highway but it kept shift left and right every once in a while. I recall 3rd Street on Manhattan Island doing that,
- In construction zones the speed limit is 65 MPH, much faster than anywhere else I have been. I love their driving speed attitude.
