The Golden Spike, or Last Spike, is actually a national park facility. It sits about 25
miles west southwest of the town of Brigham City UT. And, it is out there all by itself.
Just the visitors center and the railroad track and two engines that represent the two
engines that were nose to nose that day in 1869 when the two railroad companies drove
the last spike to complete the first continental railway.
Apparently I lucked out because the day I was there was the last day that the engines
were there. Then they leave for the winter and return late the next spring.
The visitor center had a small museum as well as about a dozen films that can be viewed
upon request about the area.
Oh, and one more thing about this park. Normally, I take a photo of the sign that
announces the park. For this one, the lettering for the park name was missing, only
the National Park Service logo was on the sign. So I skipped photographing it.
