I have been to Wichita a few times in the past dozen years, each time for Toastmasters. This time
it was the same reason. Except this time I was finally visiting the meetings of some of the clubs
here (nine clubs). I know people in most every club I visited thanks to the various conferences.
I was impressed, as expected, with these clubs.
I was mainly recruiting volunteers for the club officer training sessions that I am coordinating
for our District 22 this winter. I wanted to see the meeting rooms I had scheduled by email at
Via Christi. And, I wanted to find a site manager for Wichita (which I did at the second club I
visitied).
The city itself has a few things to see as an out of town tourist. That included the botanical
gardens, the old downtown area, Wichita State University (since I like to visit univerities
and especially photograph their main sign), and, the Keeper of the Plains statue and park.
Several parts along the main east-west highway were under construction and one interchange was
closed. That made for some detouring. However, by the end of the week I knew pretty well the
major streets of Wichita. And I covered all of the city except for the northwest quadrant.
A subsequent visit in November took me to a club just barely in the northwest quadrant.
