Since I was already heading to Florida, I decided to fly into Atlanta and visit
several places in Georgia. On my route back from Florida through Athens and on
to Atlanta, I noticed I would go through Savannah, a city I really liked when
I visited in back in the 1980's. And, a fellow Toastmaster recently moved from
Wichita to Savannah (because of his wife's job there). I contacted him a couple
of months before flying into Atlanta to see if they would be available in the
early afternoon for a possible late lunch.
In the end, however, two things happened that caused me to skip this town. One,
I never heard back from the Toastmaster buddy. Two, I saw the weather forecast for
Athens on Tuesday (the day I was slated to arrive) called for rain. So on Monday
I drove from Jacksonville through Augusta (which I really dislike the traffic and
traffic flow of that town) then on to Athens
