Since I was in Florida, I had to visit my friend and former co-worker here in
Jacksonville. My third visit in under 2-1/2 years. Since my friend still has
family living in the KC area, she still owes me a visit for these three. But,
always fun to get together. Her life keeps changing year after year here, and,
like my Arizona friend, moves to a new house every time I visit.
The day before I arrived, my friend Amanda called to say that someone at her
work had been killed in a freak car accident a few days earlier when he went
out to lunch. The memorial service was 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm on the day I was
arriving. So I had three hours to do whatever. I debated going back to Fort
Matanzas but said that can be another Florida trip someday. I chose to go to
three places in the greater Jacksonville area since I had not really done the
tourist scene thre in past trips. I went to the area know as Jacksonville Beaches
where there were thousands of people sunning themselves (and only ten or so actually
go into the water despite there being a number of life guards on duty). Then I
visited the campus of the University of North Florida. Then I toured the Museum of
Science and History (aka. MOSH). I got to see quite a bit of Jacksonville on this trip.
