While I had been twice before through Wilmington DE, I had never gone just a few miles
to the west to visit Newark DE. It is the home of the University of Delaware and I like
to photograph university campuses. Also, this town is on my large list of possible
retirement towns. Lastly, I saw that there is a Toastmasters club in town that earned
all ten DCP points so if I do move here, this might be the club to join.
The town of Newark was okay as towns go. But I also was unimpressed, especially with
some businesses I visited. Olive Gardens around the country normally only have a few
dozen people there between 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm. This time, I had to wait ten minutes
to get a seat. A service station's pump ran out of paper to print my receipt. Normally
I go in and tell I want a receipt for pump #X and within five seconds am walking out with
the receipt. This time I stood in there ten minutes while the attendant fumbled with his
computer (not a normal register) and could not print a receipt. I walked out without it.
And finally, I went to a grocery store. I attempted to pay with a debit card. My PIN is
eight digits long. Their system can only accept up to six digits. Weird.
