This trip served these purposes:
- Cathy attend her high school reunion
- Visit touristy places in southern Indiana
Indiana: This trip was mainly to let Cathy attend her high school reunion. She grew up in Plainville
(population under 500) but attended a school consolidated with several other nearby small towns. There were
119 in her class of which 16 are deceased. About half the remaining classmates attended this reunion.
We built a couple of extra days to do some touring around the southern Indiana area.
MISSED VISITING:
-- Evansville, not enough time to get to the city, it has a great science museum
OBSERVATIONS: Some observations made while traveling in this area:
- Southern Indiana, at least, makes heavy use of fist-sized stones to line ditches and hillsides for water drainage
- The only place in the 48 states which has more acreage of flat land is the panhandle of Texas
- Maybe it is the flatness of the area that makes them more visible but there seem to be an abundance of the huge powerline towers everywhere
- While other states have an occasional sign about drivers hitting highway workers and getting in trouble, Indiana has numerous such signs. The signs list the maximum fine and jail time too.
The Bests:
- Getting to see where Cathy grew up and meeting her classmates
- Seeing something about Lincoln outside of Illinois and D.C.
- Red Skelton Museum, he was one of my favorite comedians while growing up
The Worsts:
- The gray days that photographers disdain
The Totals:
- Miles Driven: 1273 (Cathy did all the driving in her vehicle so no log was kept)
- Driving: 22 hours in 6 days
- States: 3 -- Missouri, Illinois, Indiana
- Major Universities: 0
- Pictures Taken: 226 (and deleted 1 of them)
- National Parks: 2 (George Rogers Clark Memorial, Lincoln Boyhood Home, they are #104 and #105 for me to visit)
