Three reasons to stop here: Cayuga Lake, Montezume National Wildlife Refuge and
the Women's Rights National Site. I looked around on a rainy morning hoping to
spot a bald eagle or two. Only geese and ducks.
A good-to-know gotcha about this place -- there is a road around it called
Montezuma National Wildlife Road. It is a one-lane one-way gravel road that goes
counterclockwise starting at the visitor center in the southeast corner of the
reserve area. Because it was more convenient for me based on which direction I
came into town, I started at the northwest corner where I-90 and highway 89
intersect. Wrong! And the roads in the reserve south of highway 20 -- forget
them. They are just a dumpy area of old rundown homes.
Whenever I see this town name, I always think of the brand of apple juice that I
drank for years.
