The Winter Olympics have been held here twice. So I wanted to see this place because I had never been to a place where the Winter Olympics were held.

As small as the town is --- and it indeed DOES look and feel like a skiing town when compared to ones I have been to in Colorado --- I wondered where did all of the contestants and attendees and others who worked for the Olympics stay??? There are very few hotels in town and the ones here are rather small in size. I spoke to a lady in the visitor center about it. For one, she said in 1932 and 1980 not as many people attended Olympics like they do now. Two, people who lived in the area rented out their homes to the visitors (and she said she was working for the census bureau at the time and would knock on a door and find that someone such as the Russian Hockey Team was living there at the time). She did say that Lake Placid was the last time that all venues were in the same area. Nowadays the winter Olympics are held in different places, depending on the sport/event.

Nearby worth seeing is the town of Wilmington and the High Falls Gorge. However, it had snowed earlier that day and there was a strong quite cold wind and I had only brought clothes for spring weather so could not do the hike back to the falls. But I bet this area looks incredible around the end of May once everything has bloomed and blossomed for spring.
