Four reasons to come here:
My original plan was to fly into Buffalo and visit all the places then fly home out of LaGuardia.
However, that was really expensive to do, especially with leaving a rental car there that I would
have had for two weeks, so I ended up having to drive back to Buffalo.
Despite it being in the latter third of April, no trees or flowers have started to bud. And, Lake Erie
(eastern end) was about 10% - 15% ice chunks still floating in it, they looked like mounds of snow from
the air (while landing at the airport). I was surprised how low the commercial planes fly over homes
and businesses while landing.
President Fillmore's home in East Aurora was a really small house. That is surprising since the homes
of most US Presidents are larger, sometimes much larger.
Niagara Falls is incredible to see. I could "feel" the power of the water as it fell over the edges.
Fort Niagara was a bonus visit. It was interesting to see and is right on LaKe Ontario. That is the
first time I had ever seen Lake Ontario. Earlier in the afternoon I had the car air conditioner going.
A strong cold breeze came across the lake and I got back in the car and turned on the heater for a bit.
The lady working in the visitor center said people were coming back from touring the fort and were
looking really cold, and saying they were cold.
(1) Buffalo is near the last of the 100 largest US cities I want to visit
(ten or so remain but are minor in reputation such as El Paso and populous cities in California)
(2) President Fillmore Home in nearby East Aurora, it is part of the national park system and
makes #93 of my goal of visiting 100 national parks
(3) Teddy Roosevelt Inauguration National Site, it is national park #94
(4) Niagara Falls, American side, since it is so famous
