The Johnstown flood is fairly well known in history. I expected some park about it to be
in the town of Johnstown, a reasonable assumption. However, 14 miles upstream from Johnstown
is the town of South Fork. That is where the national park exists for the flood. So, towards
my goal of visiting to visit.
This park explains what happened by telling of numerous historical facts of the day before the
flood and the day of the flood plus the huge relief effort. Donations of over $7 million came in
from all over the world. It remains one of the most devastating disasters in American history.
