Gettysburg is very well known to Americans, mostly because of the important Visil War
battle fought here. And shortly after that battle is when Preident Lincoln delivered his
famous Gettysburg Address (less than 300 words). And, this national battlefield was part
of an important scene in the movie "Remember the Titans".
What I did learn is that Gettysburg park is very, very confusing to figure out just what to do.
They give you a map but it does not really match up to reality driving along the streets/roads.
Countless parking places were around but almost nothing of the battlefields except for one
huge cemetery which goes to show just how deadly the battle was. Wow!
Also in Gettysburg PA is the Eisenhower National Historic Site. It was the home and farm
of President Eisenhower and his wife. I drove in and was nicely chased away by a park ranger
who informed me that people cannot just come in on their own. They must take a shuttle from
the Gettysburg park. Reason: Eisenhower wanted the place preserved as a private working farm.
And that was true since there were cows there, closest I have ever been to one as I drove by them just a few feet away.
Towards my goal of visiting 100 national parks, these two sites make #74 and #75.
