I came to these towns for two reasons. The main one was to photograph the state capitol
building. That makes #41 of 50. The other was to visit the campus of the University of
Kentucky in nearby Lexington KY.
I like Frankfurt. Cute little town. The state capitol building is built sort of out of the way
from all the congestion and has a "loop" of road around it. A few other government buildings
are along that loop. Landscaping is very well done.
Did not really see much of Lexington downtown since I came in on the south end of town to head
to the UK campus. But just as I was leaving town, I turned onto the interstate entrance ramp,
and stopped. Sat there for 30 minutes. Traffic due to construction. When we finally moved,
it was stop and go for six miles and another 25 minutes. So, six miles in an hour.
I had experienced another hour-long traffic jam along I-71 northeast of Louisville earlier
in the day so I am glad to have gotten out of Kentucky and will probably never again return!
Kentucky has smallish green tree-covered mountains that look great. Lots of rock under the
earth surface. Somthing odd I noticed about Kentucky is that, while most east-west interstates
in the non-east-west coastal states are busy and their north-south interstates are fairly
light with traffic, Kentucky is the opposite.
