I have a travel goal of visiting the homes/museums of all U.S. Presidents.
Nixon was one of the remaing ones to visit.
I was quite impressed with the place in Yorba Linda. It was dedicated in 1990. That was about
four years before he died. I had not known that Nixon was born in this area.
His quite small house was on the grounds. The docent was telling me that the
entire library/museum for Nixon is much smaller than the one for Reagan (which
is about an hour's drive in Simi Valley).
I skipped watching the half-hour long film about Nixon. He was President during
my high school and college days. The tour of the inside of the small house I
also skipped. The Presidential helicopter was there but was unavailable for
tours because of some work being done on it.
What was interesting to me is that as I walked through the Pat Nixon rose garden I
felt a profound sense of peace wash over me. Cannot explain where that came from
but it went away as I walked out of that garden. And the flowers were not even
in bloom (as you can see from the photograph). But I absolutely felt it. The world
changed for me in that moment. I liked that feeling.
