Only military base that I can recall being on is Fort Leonard Wood in central Missouri.
Had the chance to see one. My cousin that lives in the area offered to give me the tour.
Her oldest brother met his wife while they were stationed at this base. So the place
has family significance.
Because Karen's ex was navy (like her father and brother), she gets into the naval base
more easily than most because of less security checking. Also, she lives within half a
mile of the entrance and the Navy profiles all those who live within a certain distance
of a base.
Because Karen walks with a walking stick (due to her severly broken ankles years ago),
the tour was from the car. She knew much about everything on that base -- what each
unlabeled building is, why it was built, some history about it and much more. She said
that, as a kid, she lived on the base when her father was stationed there. The only
photo I got to take (there are security cameras everywhere) was of a blue heron.
