This park in east central Colorado (near Moab) was on my way back home to Kansas.
I wanted to visit another national park on my way to visiting at least a hundred of them.
Upon approaching the park from the I-70 exit, one can see the two distinct types of
mountains. There were the special rock formations sort of what is like in both Bryce
National Park and the Colorado Monument in western Colorado. Then behind those rock
formations are the towering snow-capped mountains. Impressive sight.
Some tips for touring Arches National Park. The roadways are curvy mountainous type
switchback roads much of the way. The roads basically form the letter Y and from the
visitors center to the end of either point on the "Y" is about a half hour drive. That
includes following some of those people that want to drive about 25 mph. Go to end
of either "Y" point, without stopping, then drive back and stop for looking then.
That way, when you get behind a pokey driver, you will ditch them with a stop-and-view.
Moab, UT is about five miles south of the park and has many hotels but only one grocery store!
