I was last in Pecatonica in the early 1980's. It was the home to one set of my triple great
grandparents. They are buried in the area as are some of their descendants (three different cemeteries).
The tripe great grandmother is the longest lived ancestor of all my direct ancestors -- age 96.
Since Winnebago Cemetery (near the town of Winnebago which is also the name of the county) was on my
way from Rockford to Pecatonica (whose library opens at 10:00 am), I decided to go early and look
around in the cemetery to see if I could find them. Surprise! It is a rather large cemetery dating
from the mid 1800's to current day. And, it was a chilly morning, especially under the many large
shade trees. After half an hour of unsuccessful searching, I decided to go to the library in hopes
that someone has recorded the entire cemetery. Fortunately, that was true. So back to the cemetery
I sent and found the graves of the triple great grandparents. Unfortunately, the marker stone for
his is missing. And her's is generic (but her birth and death dates were correct so in the book at
the library, with the permission of the librarian, I added her name into the cemetery listing there.
I also discovered right next to the ggg grandparents a two year old who is somehow related (but as
far as I know, not one of the children). Ah ha, new information!
