It was nice of that long ago meteor (50,000 years) to pick a remote place in the U.S. where the land
was otherwise of little use to humans. I took some photos of the area looking north
and west of the crater.
The crater is designated National LandmarkaMonument. However, after showing my National
Park Service annual card for entry, I was informed that the meteor crater is privately
owned and managed. Thus, $16 entry fee.
After seeing many photos over the years of the crater, it was actually about half the
size I expected it to be.
