This was a slight detour on my way to Delaware. I was passing right by or through Philadelphia,
depending on which highway I choose to take, and my very favorite person in all of world history
is Benjamin Franklin (I could go on and on and on talking about the dozens and dozens of contributions
Ben made that we still have today). So I choose to make a detour to see his grave site.
I was in Philadelphia in 1982 (and called it the "City of Standing in Line" in reference to its
name "City of Brotherly Love"). At that time I did see Benjamin Franklin's burial place. But that
photo is now long gone so I wanted another one. Thus, the quick excursion since it is on the
eastern part of town. After having just driven in Manhattan I figured driving in Philadelphia
could be no worse. And, as usual with any big city the main problem is "where to park downtown".
Big cities simply choose not to make that easy. I have yet to encounter a big city that makes
parking convenient and easy, even if not free. Guess the real estate is too valuable to waste
on parking lots/garages. Philadelphia charges $10 per hour to park in one of their few small
lots (for those who cannot find an open street parking space). I saw Ben again today (smile).
He's worth it.
