Franklin Pierce served one term (1853-1857) as the 14th U.S. President. He was a lawyer in New Hampshire.
He had two houses in his home state. As a child he lived in Hillsborough (west of Concord). As an adult
he had a house in Concord, the capital of the state.
Another "goal" of this trip was to spend a night in New Hampshire. Although I have spent much time in
New Hampshire (especially in 2010) from three different trips, I had never spent a night in the state.
Thus, that was done towards my goal of spending at least one night in every U.S. state.
Pierce had two homes in New Hampshire. The one just west of Hillsborough (west of Concord) is his
childhood home. It is open to the public. His other home, the only house he ever owned, was in Concord
and is called Pierce Manse. It is privately owned and not open to the public. It was storming when I
was there so the photos are a bit foggy.
