We stopped in Waterbury for only one main reason. And that reason is possibly the highlight of this trip for Sherry. Why? Waterbury is the world headquarters for Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. A place made for kids, of all ages.

The place is full of bright colors with numerous brightly painted fun things such as animals and ice cream flavors and other fun things associated with ice cream. Hundreds of people kept coming and going in and out of the place. The gift shop was crowded. The three windows to buy a single serving of ice cream had a line. And booths of various ice cream related activities were on the perimeter of it all.

There is a tour of the facilities. The actual production of ice cream may or may not be happening. The only difference between the two is that when no production is going on (because they are cleaning in preparation for the next production run of another flavor) is the rolling line of ice cream cartons. Otheriwse, everything happens in the plant below (the tourists are watching through windows one floor above) inside of tanks and pipes.

The 30-minute tour has four parts. One, purchase a ticket and wait for the cow bell to signal your tour time is ready to start. Two, watch a short video on how the company got started. Three, view the production room and simultaneously hear the tour guide explain what you are looking at while two monitors show the same thing. And, four, go to the tasting room for one scoop of the ice cream flavor of the day.

After the tour we went to the downtown area and ate lunch at Arvad's Grill and Pub. Good place.
