Rutland is the largest town in the central part of the state. However, it is not on an interstate.
It is, though, on scenic highway 4. An extra hour of time allowed for a quick visit to this otherwise
out of the way town. The AAA travel guide said that a Norman Rockwell Museum was in Rutland.
The drive itself was worth the trip. Via winding roads, we climbed to the top of a mountain then back down
the other side on the way to Rutland. Ears popped. Traffic moved slow and the speed limit ranged from
40 MPH to 50 MPH.
Rutland itself was sort of a disappointment. The Rockwell Museum was rather small, about the size of a
typical 1950's ranch style house. A visit inside seemed like a waste of $11 for two, so it was skipped.
The town itself is a T-shape of the two major highways in town, 4 and 7. They were both full of businesses,
many of which are chain restaurants (Applebees, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, Subway, McDonalds, etc.),
hotels and other such medium sized businesses. Most office buildings were one or two story buildings
that blend in with all other buildings. There was one exception with a ten or so story building. The town
appeared to be maintained and clean. Just nothing special or noteworthy in town.
