The Lost River Gorge and Garden area is about six miles east of Woodstock NH. It is on the scenic
Kancamaqus Highway. A basic National Park type entrance sign indicates the entry to the gravel
parking lot on the south side of the highway.
The garden area is free. It claims to have about 300 varieties of native flowers that bloom between
June and September. Tickets to the gorge are purchased in the visitors center. The area surrounding
the visitors center and parking lot are quite nice with many interesting things to look at.
The gorge itself is something that is hard to fully explain. It simply must be experienced. A boardwalk
runs throughout the gorge. It rarely runs for more than a few yards before stairs go up or down. The
boardwalk often narrows so that barely one person can use it at that point. Often, steps lead down to
allow people to climb under the huge boulders and come our somewhere else. The many kids there simply
LOVED this activity. A narrow river runs the entire length of the gorge. Often, it disappears (thus,
is "lost") under the fallen boulders. The water gushes over and under the boulders, sometimes quite loudly.
