The town of Gorham NH is at the intersection of highways 2 and 16 and just a few miles from Maine.
It is a busy small town of a few hundred that depends on tourism. It is right on the northeast
corner of the White Mountains area. The town has many nice looking old houses and appears to be
a well maintained town.
Great Glen Trails is a few miles south of Gorham inside the White Mountains area. There is a large
three storied visitors center that has a constant stream of people going in and out. A small
restaurant is in the building. People can rent bicycles (a bicycle repair shop is there) or kayaks
or get a map to the many miles of walking trails or rent the audio recordings while taking the
Mount Washington Auto Tour road or get equiment for mountain hiking.
The several miles of trails for biking and walking are wide but can be quite confusing at times when
comparing them to the provided map. The trails run through dense wooded areas, many following streams
of chasms. The area is filled with many of the native wild flowers (as seen so often in the state).
All this makes for a quite an enjoyable walk or ride.
