The Columbia River forms the boundary between Oregon and Washington. Umatilla is close to the center of the state on the northern boundary of Oregon. It is there that the U.S. Corps of Engineers built the McNary dam and locks. This dam provides much electricity to the region. That is evident from the photos of the area. A large bridge is nearby to cross the river for I-82.
