Augusta (pop. 18,700) is the capital of Maine. It is located on I-95 about 60 miles north of Portland.

The capitol building looks like so many other state capitol buildings and county court houses. Across the street from the capitol is a nice park. Next door to the capitol is a museum on the history of Maine.
