In the book Dear Old Greene County [New York]...' (1915 by an unnamed author), page 482 is about the town of New Baltimore. It says that among the first settler families of the counter were the Searles. Page 330 lists the men who served in Captain Samuel Van Vechten's Company in 1776. Included is a James Halstead. The ancestor James Halstead was born in 1775 [on Long Island] so this James could have been his father. [0556]
