How do I search for a person?
Click the "Search Person" link in the header or press Ctrl+S. Type at least 2 characters of the person's name. You can search by first name, last name, or both. Use arrow keys to navigate results and Enter to select.
What is a Family Group?
Because very few people are related to everyone in this database, everyone belongs to one or more Family Groups. Family Groups are based on ancestors who lived in the late 1800's. There are six Family Groups:
- Wilson (W): all family members related to Robert S. Wilson (1856-1916)
- Deaton (D): all family members related to Robert C. Deaton (1867-1939)
- Searls (S): all family members related to Burton O. Searls (1876-1946)
- Moore (M): all family members related to Newell S. Moore (1842-1925)
- Miller (I): all family members related to Maverette A. Miller (1845-1927)
- Douglass (O): all family members related to Mary L. Douglas (1858-1945)
How do I navigate to family members?
In the "Relatives & Other Information" section, all family member names are clickable links. Simply click on any name to view that person's profile. You can also right-click to open in a new tab.

What is a Family Group Sheet?
A Family Group Sheet is a standard genealogical document showing a family unit: the focus person, their spouse(s), and their children. It includes vital information (birth, marriage, death) for each person. Ours also includes data quality notes and research questions.
What is an Ahnentafel Report?
An Ahnentafel (German for "ancestor table") is a numbered list of your ancestors. You are #1, your father is #2, mother is #3, and so on. The pattern is: father = 2×N, mother = 2×N+1. This report shows all known ancestors with their vital information.
What is a Profile Sheet?
A Profile Sheet is an MS-Word like output file that lists much of the details found in the on-screen profile of a Person.
What is a Research Request?
A Research Request is a text-based output file giving highlights of the life of a Person. Its intention is to copy-paste into the chat of an AI website to request how to better research the Person.
How do I download a GEDCOM file?
Go to the "Downloads" menu in the navigation bar. Choose from family group-specific GEDCOMs (Wilson, Deaton, Searls, etc.) or "Ancestors Only" for direct-line ancestors. The file will download automatically.
Data Questions
What do the date abbreviations mean?
- ABT = About/Approximate/circa
- EST = Estimated (calculated from other data)
- BEF = Before (ante) this date
- AFT = After (post) this date
- BET = Between two dates
What are "virtual events"?
Virtual events are events from relatives' lives shown in a person's timeline for context. For example, a parent's death or a child's birth might appear to show what was happening during the person's lifetime. These are marked differently in the display.
Where do the sources come from?
Sources include census records, vital records (birth, marriage, death certificates), church records, military records, newspaper articles, cemetery records, family bibles, cemetery records and headstones, published genealogies and histories, websites, and, other genealogical documents. Each source is cited to show where information originated.

Technical Questions
Can I use this genealogy viewer on my phone or tablet?
Yes! The viewer is designed to work on mobile devices. Some features like the Mapper work better on larger screens, but basic navigation and viewing work well on phones and tablets.
What keyboard shortcuts are available?
- Ctrl+S = Open Person Search
- Esc = Close any popup/modal
- ↑/↓ = Navigate search results
- Enter = Select highlighted result
How do I print a person's information?
Use the "Person Output" menu to generate a Profile Sheet or Family Group Sheet document. These are formatted for printing. You can also use your browser's print function (Ctrl+P) on any page.
