Most everyone in the U.S. has heard of the Rose Bowl. Its original name was Tournament of Roses. And probably nearly everyone has, at one time, watched either the Rose Bowl parade and maybe even some of one of the games. At one time the Rose Bowl stadium was one of less than ten stadiums in America that can seat more than 100,000 people. The stadium later removed seats to be under 100,000. In early 2014 the stadium was undergoing rennovations including adding more exits for those who sit in the lowest rows closest to the field.

Twice a day, when no events are on-going, a person can purchase ahead of time a ticket to get a guided tour of the stadium. I jumped at that chance. The UCLA Trojans play in this stadium. And they have one of the best theme songs too. I later visited the UCLA campus further west in LA.

The head groundskeeper is named Will. He probably knows well George Toma, the head groundskeeper for Kansas City's two stadiums. George has also been head groundskeeper for all 48 Super Bowls to date.

The tour was really good. It lasted about an hour and a half. We covered most all of the stadium, only having to miss some sections because of some off-season rennovation. Having a small tour group -- one guide and five tourers -- made it really nice. We each got to know each other a bit. We were told we could chime in any time with questions, comments or even stories related to the stadium. Only me and one of the other four bothered. Guess we were either the true football fans or the type that just like to talk!
