This was my third time to Idaho. Four times now I have driven that route between the junction of I-84 and I-86 to Boise, three times heading west. This time, like last year, I was on my way to visit Sherry. We took a couple of out of town side trip plus explored some of the greater Boise area. Some in town places included the Boise Depot and the Botanical Gardens (which was closed for the season when I was here in 2009) along with the Nampa Depot Museum and the Indian Creek Museum in the Canyon County seat of Caldwell.

Boise and I86 is in a valley just south of the mountains and forests. I had planned to drive through some of those forests and mountains. However, my plans got altered after striking a deer on highway 20 about 40 miles east of Mountain Home, Idaho. While the car was still just barely driveable (after tying down the hood to make sure it did not fly off), it took a while to get the car repaired. That caused cancellation of several destinations. The next got to see Idaho City, a small town with a population of 456 and two main streets perpendicular to the highway passing through town. Cute town, like an old west mining town.
