It was nice of that long ago meteor (50,000 years) to pick a remote place in the U.S. where the land was otherwise of little use to humans. I took some photos of the area looking north and west of the crater.

The crater is designated National LandmarkaMonument. However, after showing my National Park Service annual card for entry, I was informed that the meteor crater is privately owned and managed. Thus, $16 entry fee.

After seeing many photos over the years of the crater, it was actually about half the size I expected it to be.
