Late June: Northern Vermont has a slightly different look and feel than the southern Vermont I visited in 1986. That feeling may be because it was an overcast rainy day today. The mountains are still tall and tree covered. Many, if not most, of the trees are evergreens.

Barns are huge in this area, many times larger than the barns in Missouri. And, like western Maine (visited in 2008). residents often connect the barn and house. It is also obvious that many houses were originally small and got additions over the years that doubled or trebled the original house size.

One notable difference from western Maine is very few cemeteries are seen from the highways here whereas Maine had many, Also noticeable are the charcoal gray highway signs at the edge of towns that tell which businesses are in town. These are similar in purpose to the ones usually seen near interstate exits. And, as expected, the highways have the "watch for moose" signs along highways.

While this area does have sections of dilapidated houses, barns and other buildings, many sections are quite nice. Some are large well kept houses. Others are of trailer homes that have been added on to (again, like western Maine).
