Cannon Mountain is a couple miles south of Franconia, NH in the White Mountains area along I93. The mountain is used for skiing in the winter. During the summer, it is a popular hiking and biking area.

Two tram cars that can hold about 80 standing people each run either up or down a 4000-foot long set of cables every fifteen minutes. Each ride takes about ten minutes. At the top is a small restaurant and some observation lookout areas. The view from there goes for many miles -- provided that low clouds are not present as they were the day of our visit.

One tram operator explained that bear love the clover on the ski trails. However, they avoid the trams and the people. At the base of the tram is a visitors center, a gift shop and a small museum run by the Department of Agriculture.

In the visitors center was a picture of a cat. Above it was a sign to which anyone who lives with one or more cats can totally relate. The sign reads: Dogs have Masters. Cats have Staff. Of course, I took a picture of this. I chuckled over it several times throughout the rest of the week and will continue to every time I think of it. It it sooooooo true.
