Hoover Dam is now a landmark that the federal government is going to extra measures to protect from terrorists. Access to and across it is restricted. A new bypass bridge is being built for all commercial vehicles to go around it. Security checkpoints are in place to review all vehicles going by the dam. It took 45 minutes just to drive through the area. I stopped only for a few pictures of parts of the area. Never did see the actual dam itself. I skipped through this area (I planned to spend the night and look at Lake Mead) and drove on to Las Vegas. Disappointing. Terrorists scored one here without even directly trying to do anything. We the U.S. citizens lost this one.
