Aztec Ruins National Park is located in the town of Aztec, NM. It is in the northwest part of the state just a few miles south of Durango, CO and a few miles norteast of Farmington, NM.

The tour of the ruins takes about 25 minutes. Additionally, a 25 minute video can be seen in the visitor center.

Living areas are usually one or two stories tall and are built above ground and were square/rectangle in shape. Kivas, places probably used for public spaces and/or religions ceremonies, were round and were build below the ground with only the roof being at ground level.

The ruins are similar to those found in Chaco Canyon and Hovenweep. The ingenuity and knowledge that these people had so many centuries ago is truly amazing. They had little in the way of tools. Mostly stones and their own manual labor. No wheel, no animals to haul loads, no metal tools.
