William age 47 farmer born Pennsylvania, wife Sarah age 42 born Ohio, John age 16 born Ohio, James age 14 born Ohio, Levi age 7 born Illinois, Susan age 6 born Illinois, Rebecca age 3 born Illinois,
According to the biography of his son Samuel in Decatur county Iowa. William died in Illinois only 16 months after coming to America. But if that is the case, how did William's children come to be born in Ohio. A William Matier is listed in the Vermilion county tax and land records as having first bought property there in 1834 in the Danville township. However, the ancestor William's son James is listed as having been born in Ohio in 1836. Maybe he bought property before moving there a few years later. Where was William from 1835 to 1840: Ohio or Illinois??
