A handwritten family group sheet has the birthdates of all of the children of the family of Cyrus and Ruby (Bloss) Douglass and of the family of their son George L. Douglass. It also tells several other items, including: Cyrus and Ruby were the first couple married in Vermilion county Illinois and that their wedding date was Jan.27, 1825; their children were all born on the family homestead 4 miles south of Danville; their oldest son George was the first boy born in the county;  and, 
· their sons made the bricks for building their home. Also listed is the marriage on Christmas Day 1848 in Vermilion county of George L. Douglass and Elizabeth Ann Matier, and, the birthdates of all of their children.

Cyrus and Ruby's birthdays were just four days apart. Interestingly, they decided to get married between these two birthdays.

Cyrus is counted as among the founders of Vermilion county. He was the first to be married there and had the first male child born there. According to one story from the book on the history of Vermilion county, Cyrus and Ruby, along with another couple, Marquis Snow and Annis Butler [they were next door neighbors on the 1830 census], were married on the same day. They were the first two couples married in Vermilion county. Cyrus and Ruby were married first. Cyrus said that 
· he did not want it remembered that the first girl married in the county was barefoot at her wedding. So he went to nearby town of Paris and bought Ruby a pair of shoes. However, the shoes were way too large for Ruby's feet. After both Ruby and Marquis had later died, Cyrus and Annis married each other.

On 1860 census for Vermilion county Illinois there is a John M. Douglass age 37 born IN farmer. John is living with his wife Mahala age 37 born IN and their four children: (?)Judith age 14 born IL, (?)Winfield age 12 born IL, Clarissa A. age 5 born IL, and Mahala age 3 born IL. This John M. is possibly a nephew of Cyrus.

On 1860 census for Vermilion county Illinois there is a John M. Douglass age 37 born IN farmer. John is living with his wife Mahala age 37 born IN and their four children: (?)Judith age 14 born IL, (?)Winfield age 12 born IL, Clarissa A. age 5 born IL, and Mahala age 3 born IL. This John M. is possibly a nephew of Cyrus.
